Adding/Removing Software - Accessing RPMs from HD rather than CD

Hi,

I'm a Linux novice. I installed Fedora onto my Tosh Sat 3000 with v. few probs.. Only real prob I found was that for whatever reason Add/Remove software, after prompting for the distro CD then fails saying it can't read it. (I think there might be a general prob with reading the distro CDs, it took a good few goes before I managed to persuade the Tosh to boot from it...)

Anyway, I figured the easiest solution was to copy the CDs to the HD, which I've done. How do I get the Add/Remove software interface to look for RPMs in the directories I've created on the HD rather than on the CD?

hmm.. It would probably be better to fix the problem rather than do a work around. This is linux after all and not windows so if something is broken you have the option of fixing it yourself

this link I believe refers to the problem you are having with the distro CD installing problems. Hope it works for you if you need more help just post

There is an updated package for this in the updates repository. Use either yum or up2date to get it.

i don't know if "--tree" is what you want, i only tried "--isodir" before
as long as i can use iso files, i don't extract them and make "tree"

[root@ ~]# system-config-packages --help
Usage: /usr/share/system-config-packages/MainWindow.py [--help] [-t |--tree=PATH] [--isodir=PATH]
