distorted sound

Hi

i have ac97 audio, and i can listen to songs just fine, it's just that the sound is a little bit distorted, i don't know why because when i boot windows and listen to the same songs on winamp it sounds nice... it's defnitly not the eq or something like that i've checked that, so i'm guessing there is something wrong with either mplayer or the drivers... anyone know if there is a linux ac97 driver package or maybe has the same problem or something?

I have the same problem with totem-xine as well. So do you think it is a problem with xine?

I had the same problem with XMMS, but only when i turned up the volume. I started just keeping the sound low on XMMS and turning up my speakers manually, but you can also go into System, Sound Card Detection, then change the master volume up. Turning up the volume this way seemed to work fine.
