Exclamation Stuck between FC4 and FC5

Hi,

I had FC4 installed.
I downloaded and burned the CD version of FC5.
I tested the disks fine.

Then I started the instalation, selected UPDATE system.
Somewhere during the 1st disk, the instalation failed with an unhandled exception.
It might be the disk, the cd drive, or my computer, but the point is now, I'm stuck!

When I boot my computer, it first looks like the loadding of FC5, then it just goes to the black fullscreen with a shell prompt.
I tried to re-do the FC5 update, but same problem happened.

What can I do?
I have files saved in there.
I know people will tell me "you should have backed up your files", but this computer actually IS my backup computer.

What can I do?

Thx

what does it say on the shell prompt? Can you at least log in without the GUI?

If you don't have anything important you could always do a fresh install of FC5 (or 4, for that matter) by formatting the partitions.

Yes I can still log-in without the GUI.
Just text.

I see that my ftp server still works, so I guess all I can do now is transfer my files on another computer, and then do a fresh install.
I don't have a choice do I?

ok, you are probably running on runlevel 2. You should be in runlevel 5 which is the GUI. I forgot the command to change to runlevel 5. I agree with omegablue. Just do a fresh install.
