Linspire Announces Freespire
http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl.../04/24/2123238
In a deal that look very similar to openSuse, Linspire is launching the Freespire community project.
They will have a free version with all the proprietary stuff (like Suse Linux Evaluation) and a version with only open stuff (like openSuse).
In order to use their CNR tool (a front-end to apt-get), users will be required to subscribe, which is a $20/year fee. None of the proprietary stuff will be available through apt-get.

I plan to test drive the mixed version of Freespire when it comes out. This
looks like an excellent way to bundle free and closed software.

Thanks but no thanks. I can't imagine it being any better that of Debian (which it derives from), Ubuntu, Simply MEPIS, Kanotix and countless other .deb based distros. Therefore, there really isn't any insentive.

just to add to my previous post, I am so not surprised If you recall there was a project called Freespire seperate from Linspire (which shockinklingly enough was Linspire based) Linspire asked them to change their name and they did, to SquiggleOS to be exact. As quiet as it was kept this should come to you as no big secret.

PJ (of Groklaw fame) denounced Freespire as "piece of crap."
Okay, I made up that last bit.
