Is it possible to do an auto format or wipe all the available partition(s) in drive at boot time/startup in linux? What command should i use and how to set it up as startup?

Also, can linux delete itself by usuing a command when you where logged on it?

It's certainly possible, but why on earth would you want to?

Yes, if you have sufficient privilege. This is a *really* good reason not to run as root except when you absolutely have to...

Why don't you give us a bit more info...

I suspect you don't want what you've asked for. What you've said so far is that you want a system to boot and destroy itself; this seems a very complicated way to blank a disk.

What is you application, what data are you trying to destroy (and what data do you want to keep), and what degree of destruction (i.e. how secure) do you need?

Vic.

If you want to wipe a disk drive, why not pop in a live CD and type in " shred -n (number of times you want it to run) -v /dev/what-ever-you-are-shredding "?
