graphics card support

I have an Nvidia Geforce FX graphics card in my laptop running Fedora core 5, but with how slow my gui seems to be running I have to question if it is actually working or not... Is there anyway I can check if my graphics card is being recognised? and if it isn't how do I make it work?

Thanks.

If you're card wasn't recgonized you wouldn't have a GUI!

It's probably not 3D accelerated. See the FAQ for how to get nVidia drivers.

so i installed these...

================================================== ===========================
Package Arch Version Repository Size
================================================== ===========================
Installing:
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia i386 1.0.8756-1.lvn5 livna 4.0 M
Installing for dependencies:
kmod-nvidia i686 1.0.8756-1.2.6.16_1.2096_FC5 livna 1.6 M

but when I go on the Nvidia display settings that were installed all that there is is four really basic settings for some kind of gui that i don't seem to have, is it just that I need to intall something else to get it all going... am I just being stupid?

Have you checked in /etc/X11/xorg.conf that the driver section has nvidia in it rather than nv. e.g.

Section "Device"
Identifier "NVIDIA Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600 GT]"
Driver "nvidia"

If not edit the file and reboot.
