Question Samba version

How can I find out what version of Samba I'm running. I'm new to linux and just installed Fedora Core 4 x86_64 and I want to learn how to use samba. I've been reading that I want to use Samba 3.x but I don't know how to check and see what I have.

Is there a simple command that I can use to find out or can I assume (I don't like to assume anything) that because I'm running FC4 it has version 3?

thx
-PD

Please let us know if you can get samba working properly WITH SELinux protection.

That should be interesting.. So far I have been able to connect to a windows network, ping and be pinged by windows with out having to disable SELinux.. The only thing is I can't see the linux box listed in the windows (View workgroup computers) but I can type in the IP and connect. The only thing is, I can see my shared folder, but I can't do anything with it. Like add a file or something. It comes back with:

ShareDrive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource...

This is where I don't know what i'm doing wrong.

I think am almost there.. But I need some help still.
for some reason i can access my shared dir, but I can't write anything to it.

testparm show this:

[global]
workgroup = MSHOME
server string = LinuxBox
interfaces = 192.168.1.0/16
security = SHARE
encrypt passwords = No
guest account = <username>
log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
max log size = 50
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
dns proxy = No
wins proxy = Yes
wins support = Yes
idmap uid = 16777216-33664431
idmap gid = 16777216-33554431
guest ok = Yes
hosts allow = 192.168.1., 127.

[SharedDrive]
comment = linux_shared_drive
path = /mnt/windows
read only = No

I have chmod -R 777 /mnt/windows
and chown <username> /mnt/windos

But I still can't write to /mnt/windows from the network
any ideas?

This is where I am so far, I see we are going about it different ways but that is good--

[global]
workgroup = GROUP
netbios name = FEDORA
server string = Samba Server
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *ReType*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *passwd:*all*authentication*tokens*updated*success fully*
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
unix password sync = Yes
log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
max log size = 50
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
dns proxy = No

[larry]
path = /fedorshare/larry
read only = No
guest ok = Yes

[theresa]
path = /fedorshare/theresa
read only = No
guest ok = Yes

I made my shares off root and sym linked to each users home,they live on the same FC5 machine and they share to a winxp workgroup. permissions are 777 but the only way I have read right from one to another is to System/Admin/security-level/selinux/modify/samba
[X] disable SELinux protection for smbd daemon

I also tried this first leaving SELinux enforcing -
chcon -t samba_share_t /fedorshare/larry
chcon -t samba_share_t /fedorshare/theresa
Did not work

And then saved this
/fedorshare/larry(/.*)? system_u:object_r:samba_share_t
/fedorshare/theresa(/.*)? system_u:object_r:samba_share_t
into a file called file_contexts.local,here
/etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts.local
and then forced a relabel

#su
#touch /.autorelabel
#reboot

and now my files look like this

#ls -lZ /fedorshare/larry
-rw-rw-r-- larry larry system_u:object_r:samba_share_t Screenshot.png
-rw-rw-r-- larry larry user_u:object_r:samba_share_t smb.conf

But I still have to have SELinux disabled for smbd daemon to allow shareing,writing, back and forth. This last bit from
#man samba_selinux
I had similar results using [home].
