Automatic and Timed Login Not Working

Hi:

I know this is a minor quibble but, since I'm the only user of my Fedora Core 5 installation I've had this probllem of setting my Login screen so my userid will login auto, or perhaps timed. I've tried this both using the root login from my normal login to access the module, and logged in as root in another session.

Anybody else run into this problem? Is it a bug.

Otherwise Fedora Core 5 is really great and easy to setup a software RAID 1 during the install. I have 3 80 Gig HD's so I could even use one as a spare.

Thanks,

I have the same problem.. I think it is definitely a bug.

I note that in the drop down list, none of the user names appear for selection. If I manually enter the username, it is not remembered next time I open the dialog box.

On searching Fedora Bugzilla I did not find a bug relating to this, so I just submitted one (#189701). Hopefully it will be fixed soon

Not a bug - a feature!

I'm glad for the heads up via email - I couldn't locate this thread and figured someone had posted the correct reply already.

When you get to the Login Screen setup via root - you have to first go to the User tab on the right before you do the autotime boot via security.

Make sure the user on the list on right includes yourself or anybody else you want to time login or autologin.

Then when you have done this you will actually see a drop down list with the users name in either fields.

Choose this rather than typing in the user name.

I've already forgotten how I added my own userid to the Users selection. Presumably by looking at /etc/passwd list? Somebody I'm sure will jog my memory (or maybe use HELP??) and this thread can be closed. I can now autologin with no problem upon booting - if I want to login in another user you can just "switch users" or logout of the present session.

Click on "System" > "Administration" > "Login Screen". Enter your root password. Then on the "Users" tab enter your non-root user name in the "Include" box by clicking on the "Add" button, typing your user name and clicking the "Add" button in the dialog box. Important: Click the "Apply User Changes" button. Then on the "Security" tab tick the check box for "Enable Timed Login". Select your user name in the "User:" box and type "5" in the "Pause before login:" box . Click "close".
