Exclamation FC5 wierd DNS issue

So i have just installed FC5 a ew days ago and (almost) everything works like a charm. Now i decided i wanted to set up a network with my brother and mum (or mom depending). So i went into DNS options and see localhost.localdomain. You have to change local host to what your computer is called and local domain to what the network is called, rite?

so i changed all that around and rebooted. About 40 mins later it finished booting (no joke) and then i loged in as root and about 20 mins later it finaly got in. Well that sucked, maybe it was just a one time thing? Apperantly not, i rebooted again and the same thing happened. When i change it back to localhost.localdomain it works fine again. So i though oh well i can handle the boot time but then when i try to opan enything it takes forever, for example the firefox browser im useing rite now took atleast 5 mins to open. The internet works at normal speed, so does everything else once the app is opend.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

localhost and localhost.locadomain both points to your so called loop-back device. this is a virtual ehternet device...the whole operating system operates with this (virtual) device. so if this device is not reachable yor operating system does not work...

what you wanted to do is changing the hostname right? then ADD a name in the /etc/hosts (just after the localhost things...) file and change the value hostname= in /etc/sysconfig/network. then you can reboot and everything should work alright.

but never delete the localhost thing. an btw, never set a hostname in /etc/sysconfig/network to which no dns-lookup is available...means also set the name in /etc/hosts if you haven't a running dns server in your lan...
