Thumbs down System upgrade fails to boot

Hello all.

I just did the upgrade from a working Fedora Core 4 system to Core 5. I have an Athlon 64 system, and used the 64-bit upgrade CDs downloaded as iso. I checked the CDs before the upgrade, and all was reported well.

The upgrade went smoothly to completion, and I received the message to reboot my system. Doing so, I had the proper startup graphic screen, then the following messages:

Uncompress Linux ... OK, booting the kernel
Red Hat nash version 5.0.32 starting
insmod: can't read /lib/scsi_mod.ko: No such file or directory
insmod: can't read /lib/sd_mod.ko: No such file or directory
<same again for several more modules>
Unable to access resume device (LABEL=SWAP-sda2)
mount: could not find filesystem /dev/root
setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /proc : No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory
switchroot: mount failed : No such file or directory
Kernel panic - not syncing : Attempted to kill init!

At this point, everything stops.

The system boots fine with the Core 5 rescue CD, and I can see the missing modules are present, but not at /lib, they're way down the tree at /lib/modules/.... where they should be (?).

Can anybody help with this? All suggestions appreciated!

When in rescue mode and chrooted to /mnt/sysimage run
Code:
rpm -V kernel
to check that your kernel is installed correctly.

The previous install was also 64 bit? I'm trying to find a way that the module locations would differ, and lib versus lib64 is one way.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The kernel was installed ok, and yes, the previous install of Core 4 was definitely 64 bit. The difference was that the prev install was off the DVD iso, and my initial upgrade to Core 5 was done via the five CD isos. So, today, I downloaded the DVD iso for core 5 and installed that one as an upgrade, and everything now works!

Surely the CDs couldn't differ from the DVD release to that extent?

Regards
