Thumbs down Going Back To Windows.....

I'm going back to Windows due to the fact that I can't have two applications running and get sound from both. Whatever app I start first takes control of sound output. If I turn on Teamspeak and then put in a cd I can't hear the CD. Its weird. I can't even hear system sounds if a cd is playing. Overall Fedora looks good, but too buggy for me.

Its not a bug, all you need is a decent sound card, by decent i mean one that supports hardware mixing.

there is an alsa plugin to fix it (kind of software mixing) however you still can't record and listen to more than one sound at once

Yes, but it means you can't use teamspeak and hear music or sound from a game

I doubt that. Although I can't remember exactly, I think I have heard a while back more than one player working at the same time. That happened a couple of times. My sound comes just from the motherboard output plug, so no high-end stuff here.

Cheers, Paul.

I believe dmix should already be enabled by default. I might be wrong. In that case, using ~/.asoundrc might be your best bet.

If you search the forums, you'll find the thread about Linux bashers. You'll see why I'm talking like this to you now...

If you're going back to Windows, that's your choice, not ours and honestly to us it doesn't matter. We see many of these "I'm going back to windows" threads and just pass them by. We get about 10x more "Thanks!" or "Linux rules" comments when we help solve someone's problem and they enjoy Linux. We'll focus on those people, not these type of threads. Not to be rude, but if you want your problem solved then use the proper title.

Although, as said above, a sound card will solve this. You can pick up a cheap one for ~30$.

As I've said before, it you want your thread to get attention, put up a banner like this one. Check out the other 'help needed' threads - might have 20-30 people checking them out. But let someone say "I've HAD it!" and there's HUNDREDS of viewers immediately. Not the way we want to have threads work, but it does get results.

Shhhh! He wasn't supposed to know, now he'll do it again! lol
But, getting serious now, please next time use a more informative title. If all we saw around here was 'Sound now working, going back to windows', it wouldn't be too fun.
