Fedora Core 5 common issues and bugs
Hi
Just a collection of issues that I have documented to avoid those repeated questions and discussions about the same problems.

Has an updated kernel been released yet? I don't see one in the updates section of the download server.

I've searched a bit to see if this is a "common issue" or known "bug" and haven't found anything on it.
I just used the new release of FC5 to build a "reference server" to use for kickstart installations. The resulting anaconda-ks.cfg was basically worthless, as it did not come even close to containing a correct list of the package groups and additional programs that were actually installed. The hardware list and partitioning was okay. But I'll have to build a package listing manually, or with system-config-kickstart.
Is this "feature" (the creation of anaconda-ks.cfg) so little used that this is a problem that could have escaped notice during testing?

Don't know. Works for me. It seems that noone else has filed such a bug report either. Might be hardware specific. File a bugreport against Anaconda in http://bugzilla.redhat.com

Sorry, I havent filled on it for Fedora. I was using Ubuntu for a long while, and AME is in it. I did file I bug in malone for ubuntu.
But a question while we are on the topic of menu editing. I am new to Fedora, havent used Redhat since version 5.something. And I like FC5. Its a great release.
Is there are program that comes with FC5 to edit gnome menus??
Thanks,

I submitted bug #187343. Hopefully Dave Jones (or whoever else) will be able to reproduce the problem.

You know for some reason when I install SMEG, Alacarte keeps trying to install over it after I do a update.
This is anoying. Anyone know why this is or is it a bug before I go file a bug report.
Thanks,
Bandit

Alacarte is the new name for Smeg. Not a bug.

Is there anyway to lock a version down so it doesnt try to upgrade all the time?

You might be missing out bug and security fixes but you tell yum and friends to ignore a particular package by adding
exclude=package
to /etc/yum.conf.
man yum.conf and http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/yum/ for more details.
