Mouse wheel doesn't work in FC5

I'm creating virtual machines using Microsoft "Virtual PC" and loading/running various Linux distros on the VMs. (The host environment is Windows XP SP2.)

The mouse I'm using is a Dell optical USB wheel mouse. The Virtual PC software hides the real mouse and presents instead a "standard" virtual PS/2 mouse to the VMs.

When FC5 boots up on one of these VMs I can use my wheel mouse to point and click, but the wheel doesn't work. When I list the input devices that the kernel sees, the mouse info is wrong; Linux incorrectly detects the mouse as a Thinkpad trackpoint device:

[root@fc5-01 sysconfig]# cat /proc/bus/input/devices
<snipped...>
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=000a Version=0000
N: Name="TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
S: Sysfs=/class/input/input1
H: Handlers=mouse0 event1
B: EV=7
B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
B: REL=3

[root@fc5-01 sysconfig]# uname -r
2.6.15-1.2054_FC5

FWIW, when I run FC4 on one of these VMs the mouse wheel works fine. Here's what I get when I list the input devices on one of the FC4 VMs. The FC4 kernel correctly detects the mouse as a generic wheel mouse:

[root@fc4-01 ~]# cat /proc/bus/input/devices
<snipped...>
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0005 Version=0000
N: Name="ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
H: Handlers=mouse0 event1
B: EV=7
B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
B: REL=103

[root@fc4-01 ~]# uname -r
2.6.14-1.1656_FC4

Any suggestions on getting the mouse wheel to work on the FC5 VMs?

Microsoft Virtual PC, Fedora 5, Mouce Wheel Fix

You have to add the kernel option "psmouse.proto=imps". You can add it to you /boot/grub/grub.comf kernel line.

Mine reads like this:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 ro root=LABEL=/ psmouse.proto=imps rhgb quiet

Then reboot...
