FC4 upgrade to FC5 - Now random reboots.
I have been running FC4 on this box since it came out. Now after I upgraded to FC5 my computer randomly reboots. Even if I am not doing anything and the computer is idle. Where can I begin seraching to find the problem? I've tried the message log, but it's not helping. If I were in Windows I'd check the Event Viewer - any linux comperable?
Thanks.

Hi there,
From what I am led to believe, whilst the upgrade path from FC4 to FC5 works, it's recommended to backup and perform a fresh install of FC5. This should eliminate any potential problems.
As for the random reboots, have you checked any log files to see if there is anything mentioned in there that may help?

Ok, I just did a clean install, and I am still getting reboots. I have run memtest and everything shows clean. I changed my video card, but no luck. I am running on a compaq D530s.

I was getting random reboots after building my computer and Memtest showed that everything was fine but it wasn't. Turned out to be a faulty memory stick after all so I wouldn't fully trust Memtest that everything is alright.

Is there anything interesting in /var/log/messages or /home/user/xsession-errors?

No, no problems at all in FC4. I had 1.5gb of mem, I have since taken that down to 512mb to eliminate the potential for badmemory. Right after that I got a reboot, but now it has been up for almost 12 hours. I forgot to mention that during the clean install it rebooted too. So doubt it's FC5. I am leaning now more towards a faulty power supply......and it's a proprietary
