Unable to change window size in Fedora 18 with Gnome 3.6.2

I have a netbook with 2Gb RAM, an Intel® Atom™ CPU N570 @ 1.66GHz × 4 processor and a Intel® IGD Graphics Card. I recently upgraded to Fedora 18 (32bit) with Gnome 3.6.2. Ever since I started using Gnome 3 some windows are too large for my screen, which causes them to have their lower end (where usually the "OK" and "Cancel" buttons are) below the screen. Trying to find a solution I also tried to change the screen resolution (it is now at 1024x600), only to find out that I didn't have any xorg.conf file. With the command "Xorg -configure" I tried to create a new xorg.conf file and got this output:

Configuration failed.
Server terminated with error (2). Closing log file.

Despite this the option of 800x600 resolution returned to the Displays tab of System Settings (which was absent before that ever since the upgrade). Even with that resolution though the lower end of the same windows continue to be below the screen.
Would those lower ends become visible if I changed to a higher 16:9 resolution (if that is even possible on a netbook), and how would I do that? Is there another way to change the size of windows? (note that <Alt>+F8 does not work on those windows).

Re: Unable to change window size in Fedora 18 with Gnome 3.6.2

I must add that when trying to use <Alt>+F8 in windows of some applications (Scribus, e.g.) the whole system crashes when the window starts to resize...
