FC8 Is taking so much time to start

Hi All,
I have working fedora 8 on my system,
It is working fine but it is taking so much time to start.
My configuration is given below.
I have 2.6.23.1-42.fc8 kernel installed in fedora 8.
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
RAM: 1 GB DDR2
HDD: 80 GB

I have checked by installing bootchart which can trace me the startup processes.
I have got some of the processes which are taking so much time,
The processes are nash-hotplug, init, rc.sysinit, modprobe, rhgb, auditd, audispd, rpc.idmapd

Can anybody suggest me how can we decrease the start up time?

Hi Maxalex, When you say so much time, how much time roughly ? Not that i'll be likely to be able to help you myself but you should get a better response.
Bear in mind that F8 is now unsupported for updates and it would take about 1 min 40 seconds when i ran the 32bit version on a ancient 750Mhz CPU/Soltek 75KAV mobo. Also mention your motherboard (preferably in your signature).

My system is taking 4 to 5 mins in startup,
I have motherboard of intel D945.
And I have collected bootchart with bootchart applications too.

Are there any suspicious messages in the message log? You could try to disable unnecessary services. Here is a good guide:

Which desktop environment are you using? The big two, Gnome and KDE, are known for taking a little bit longer. You could try some lighter DE, for instance XFCE.
As JONOR already said, F8 is rather old, in terms of Fedora life cycles, and in F11 there has been a lot of effort to make the boot process much faster.

Yes, F11 does boot faster.

Where in the boot process are you spending a lot of time ?

A lot of Fedora installs would lose almost exactly 2 extra minutes booting due to (unconfigured) Sendmail. I don't recall the details except it would generate two network requests that would timeout.

If that's your problem just disable the Sendmail service or complete its configuration ... I think setting the system hostname ot perhaps making an /etc/hosts entry for hostname is sufficient.

I have stop some of the unnecessary processes and it make some change but not more then 20 seconds.
I have installed fedora 8 with KDE.
I will try to reinstall with fedora 11.

I can't find info on how to make the boot process done parallel...

I have an UPS connected with COM-cable and it takes about 10 seconds to be recognised and I'd rather eliminate it. It just waits until response is received.
I don't think there is any reason to stop the boot just for UPS.

Anyone with an info or link to an solution?
