Fedora 12 on PS3: Where is it?
I just finished installing Fedora 12 on my PS3, rebooted into petitboot and nothing appears in the menu apart from the install DVD.
Have I done something wrong?
EDIT: I went through the installation again and there's still only the DVD in petitboot's list.

That's the exact one I used. Not really many options for it though apart from the screen resolution.

Installed it 3 times I think. I'll download and install the bootloader again just to be sure then reinstallk Fedora 12 again.
BTW What option should I choose for the partition? Use free Space, Replace existing Linux Install, or use entire drive?
EDIT: I tried the bootloader you linked to and there was no graphical interface at all, and no mention of the DVD drive to install fedora from.
EDIT 2: Tried the latest version on the guide link you posted (which doesn't actually link to a guide, but nevermind) and it shows the 2 install options on the menu (again, not graphical) but it won't load it. I feel like I'm getting further away from actually being able to do this.
EDIT 3: Tried a different version on that page and it loaded the installer. Everything went fine except when I select Fedora to load in the petitload list it says "Failed: kexec /var/petitboot/mnt/sdd1/vmlinuz-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.ppc64" Any clues?

On the partition option I used "Use Entire Drive"
and the link to the guide isn't really a guide but it has some good info Installing it
what version of Fedora do you have I am using the latest download off the PPC version
also are you installing Fedora Via the internet or DVD?
I use the Fedora-12-ppc-DVD.iso , downloading and installing VIA internet always gave me problems so I stopped using it.
oh here is another link that might help
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PlayStation/Ps3ReSpin
I don't know why it doesn't work right I only had problems with updating Fedora
also the boot.bld link is suppose to be installed in the ps3 OS not linux

I'm installing Fedora 12 PPC via DVD, it installed the last time but it won't load up from the drive for whatever reason.
I'll have a read through the PS3ReSpin thing and see what that's all about.
EDIT: The ReSPin thing made no sense at all, it's written for Fedora 8, and written for Linux. I'm on windows 7 (which, by the way installed with no issues and no entering any weird code) so tried my best to follow the instructions to copy files into the right directories (again, with copy and paste instead of vague command lines). Unfortunately, half the files that were asked for aren't in the current Fedora release, si the gfuide is effectively useless.
I might just go and try Ubuntu instead.

LOL. Weird code?!
Commands is all.
Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I hope someone can help out. I have no PS3 so not sure if I can be of much use.

As far as I can tell it's being installed correctly but the problem I have now is not being able to actually load it up. On the graphical version of petitboot the harddrive doesn't appear in the list, and on the text based version it does appear, but fails to load.
Does anyone here know a command I can type in after pressing Alt+F1 in the graqphical version that would just load whatever's on the harddrive?

Hmm... let me see if I can help.
are you root?
Code:
su-
fdisk -l
mount -a
fdisk -l will list the devices/drives
mount -a will mount all the drives.
I don't know if this is what you mean by "load"
I must admit, I'm not sure what is really going on with your PS3 or your install process. I will read the whole thread to see if I can help.
If you mean by not "load" that it does not boot. Is that what you mean?

fdisk: not found
su- not found
mount: cannot read /etc/fstab: No such file or directory
I feel that wiping the entire hard drive, reloading all my PS3 game data, then trying this again might be what I have to do, but also, that might just be a big waste of time.
EDIT: Typing mount gives me:
rootfs on / type rootfs (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
none on /sys type sysfs (rw)
none on /tmp type tmpfs (rw,nosuid, nodev)
udev on /dev type devpts (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw)
none on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)
/dev/sr0 on /tmp/tmp/mnt/sr0 type iso9660 (ro)
root@OpenWrt:/#
???
EDIT 2: Tried formatting the hard drive and starting again, no luck. It did however remind me that the first time I tried installing Fedora (Version 11, it crashed with a bug of some sort) it had some sort of problem initialising the drive or something. I said retry and it seemed to be fine after that but I still can't find what I've installed to start it.

The kboot lines are incorrect. You'll notice that it is attempting to load the kernel from /.../sdd1/.../... instead of /.../ps3da1/.../...
Atleast that what it was for me.

Unfortunately, I don't know. I tried using the graphical petitboot but ultimately gave up. I used the petitboot from http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...le/geoff/cell/
That link also has a decent run through of fedora on PS3 in the howto folder.
