Ubuntu 12, yippe.

Okay so I get ubuntu like a good boy, downloading it from the ubuntu website, burn it to a DVD, put the DVD in my drive, reboot. Boots from the DVD, crashes. Black screen, had to take it down hard. This happens with whatever computer I take it to; my desktop, my laptop, I put it on a USB drive and take it over to a friend's netbook, and it won't boot there, either. I thought I might have a bad iso image, so I downloaded another image and played with that one too, having the same results. What's going on?!

Try installing it in a virtual machine and see what results you get. Also I don't know if Ubuntu doesn't have checksums to go with their images or not, but check your download against their checksum if they provide one.

I tried it in a vm, but it was just dirt slow and the resolution was around 3000x2000. Completely unusable. I don't think they have a checksum, either. Come to think of it, I got almost identical results with Fedora 18 alpha. Wussup wit dat?

They do.

I would recommend verifying the checksum before any installation.

Re: Ubuntu 12, yippe.

Sorry to waste your time, guys, but I think the reason Ubuntu would not boot on my laptop is because my motherboard was dying. Which would explain about 90% of my trouble with it this week.

-Not booting half the time
-Can't read a CD correctly
-Can't copy more than 5GB at a time
-Getting I/O errors on any external drive, including my internal CD drive
