| Reviews, Rants & Things That Make You Scream The place for you to submit reviews of all those applications you use with Fedora. The Devs probably aren't listening, but some times you've just GOT to blow off steam or sing its praises. |

Why it's important to file bug reports ...
Just a little something to brighten your day.
I'm not saying any brand new fedora releases can get a little buggy ... but ...
Carry on!

Those look like cicadas - I wish the bugs only appeared every 17 years !
Had so many cicadas here in 1998, I'm still grossed out by the thought.

They are. These were just this morning's haul off of the front porch and the fence under the sweetgum tree. About mid-afternoon the cicada buzz will be almost deafening in the front yard. <.. ..>
Which is ok. I suppose. It's going to be well over 102F out there, so I have no intentions of leaving my nice noisy air conditioned hovel unless I really have to.

<sigh> We're moving to new digs next week. Only an 8 mile move but it couldnt be at a worse time of year, last week of July...Oh well, at least we are lightened up compared to last time, I dont need to sell off 2/3rds of my possessions this time. I figure I will move most of the light junk next friday in the Tacoma then we got a U-Haul and tow dolly for Sat. Hopefully by Aug. 1st we will be settled in and I wont be in the hospital due to a heart attack or heat stroke. I am getting too old for this s***.

A sentiment I heartily agree with!
Things are in flux here too, but with any kind of luck, they'll stay stable for at least the next three months. Packing that truck in 100F+ heat just ain't at all attractive. I will, however, admit to feeling some increased pressure to get out of a city environment, and back out into the country. The way things are going, I'm thinking by winter, we're going to have an old fashioned "food and home-made clothes" type Christmas rather than the recently normal "retail extravaganzas," and like most municipalities, these self-proclaimed "smarter'n you" folks have outlawed keeping small farm animals (chickens, rabbits, etc.) inside the city limits.
Although, I find the concept of going back to dial-up -- is damn near as attractive as the thought of loading that truck in August. <.. ..>

I wish you luck in prolonging it till late Sept or Oct. That is the prime time to move anyway.
With us, we are happy here, we love this place. Nice local close to the mall and nice neighborhood. Corner lot with a great drainage culvert in back to play in. Nice view out the slider...
The lease ran out last Oct. and we have pushed for a two year lease. We are renting through Century 21 and the realitor who has this one sucks. She kept blowing it off. Well, when we rented the housing bust wasnt quite in full effect and we are paying a bit much by today's standards. My wife got a recent promotion and we were talking about looking for something better. But being happy here we were reluctant. Then a few months ago the stupid realitor let it slip that the owner had considered moving back in but then decided to sign a year lease and that she had the lease and the realitor was just waiting to get it back. Well, that was the wrong thing to say, after a couple more months of stalling we felt we better make a move because I sure dont want to be told I have 30 days to relocate.
So we found a beautiful house with 1000 more sq ft for just $100 more a month. Thing is, this includes yard service and water, which we pay here. So we actually save a bit. 2008 house, marble counters, quality fixtures, huge 3 car garage, the place is beautiful, more than I really even want. So...
Funny thing is sure as crap, the day we gave notice on this place she claimed she had a signed year lease in hand. Oh well, we had put first, last and security down already and it is a done deal. Too bad, so sad.
So now I get to enjoy an action packed week in the July Florida sun. It will be worth it though.
No rabbits or chickens though, it is on a nice subdivision. That's okay, I sold my 20 acres to get away from all that. Still, a garden and a herd of rabbits or some guinea hens would be cool...Maybe next time...

@ Sean; I guess it is too easy to say, since I am about 3000 miles from you, but seriously, if I were close I would come over and help you move. Linda and I have done that (in the summer heat) and it is no joke. Please take your time, and take lots of rests. Maybe do most of the work in the early mornings, and late evenings; might be easier on your old ticker. Geez, what would we do here without you around to stir the pot? LOL
@ Dan; Yes, I had hughesnet for 5 years, and sometimes I thought that dialup was peferable. We got lucky and a wisp service became available. Speeds are amazing for wireless. On a fast server, I sometimes see 800 kB per sec, and my plan is only 450 kB per sec; about 8 times faster than hughesnet at its best times. You might want to have a look around for something like a wisp when and if you do move. Oh yes, and the price is about half of what hughes wanted.
Regards,
Bob

Thanks, but it aint no thing. I got my boys to help, all I got to do is play Tom Sawyer and get them to do all the work. Besides, I'm a native born and raised here. I'm used to it. Really, it isnt as bad here as Dan got it, we just hit the high nineties. It is just the humidity that gets you. Just take things slow and drink a lot of water. Would you believe I spent most of my life eschewing air and heat? No kidding, in my twenties I would never use either I was a windows down kind of guy. There are only 5-10 days a year here where you really need heat, otherwise it stays above 50F. A few blankets at night and everything's good. It was only when I got married that I even used air in the house or car, and even then I worked outside all day until my mid forties. It is only lately that I am getting soft. It will do me some good to sweat for a couple days.

Sean ... school is out, and I'll bet you could easily find a couple of teenagers who are looking for some spending cash. I've already put the neighbor's three teenager boys on notice, here. I figure that's likely to cost me less than a trip to the ER with my tongue hanging out. <.. ..>

Strange how some of the smallest creatures are also the most weird looking.
