Fedora 18 & MATE

First I want to say kudos to Fedora for including MATE in F18, along with a shout out to the MATE developers who made it possible.

I've been testing extensively and it's running great for me. Everything from MythTV to Gimp 2.8.2 is working fine. The DE feels pretty snappy and I'm more certainly more productive. It's like an old friend has returned from banishment.

I do hope there is a future in the partnership between Fedora & MATE.

I hope to see Compiz-MATE be available in the repos soon.

I've been a MATE user for a while, but I never found a decent theme compatible with GTK3 which isn't Mint-X (which I dislike).
Does Fedora's MATE come with a GTK3 theme? Do the GTK3 applications show properly?

I understand that MATE is being modified to allow compilation under GTK3. Some are using Clearlooks-Phenix to properly display GTK3 apps in MATE .

I'm just using the default themes and they look fine to me.

I keep seeing people talk of problems with Fedora 18 + MATE but I just can't seem to find many issues. I've been running it now since TC4 and I only have two minor issues that I've ran across.

1) Un-mute doesn't work properly when initiated from the keyboard. Mute works fine but the un-mute toggle only affects the Master channel, keeping the Master Mono and PCM. Muted. This is a known bug and I assume it's being fixed for the next release. Of course, clicking the mute/unmute on the volume control icon works fine.

2) Parcellite doesn't autostart. I had to drop it in ~.conf/autostart to get it to autostart, which works fine.

These are minor issues and certainly not any kind of show stopper.

If you like eye candy, compiz is working great in F18.

So, what problems am I missing that's keeping others from moving into the MATE camp? Just wondering?

So no one had enlightened me on problem with MATE & F18, that I seem to be missing? I'm beginning to think the supposed problems are propaganda, causing unfounded FUD. Either that or not many have actually bothered to fully test out f18 Mate /w compiz, over a reasonable time period.

Any insights?
