cisco vpn on kernel 2.6.30

I have cisco vpn client v.4.8.02. On kernel 2.6.29 everything works fine. When I switch to kernel 2.6.30, I can connect to cisco vpn server, but after some seconds system hangs. Only power button works. Is there solution for this problem, or I must wait for new cisco vpn client.

Unless there is something really special about the CIsco VPN client (and they must have improved it since I last tried--it used to be a real pain to compile and install, at least on 64 bit systems), I would recommend using vpnc. It should be in the repos, very easy to use.

Back to your question though, if I remember correctly, Cisco's client is built against the kernel. That means it will have problems each time you update your kernel as it's looking for various modules and such that are probably no longer there.

I would try reinstalling it. (Which is probably necessary each time the kernel's upgraded.)

However, I really do think you might find that vpnc meets your needs.

Thanks. VPNC works fine on kernel 2.6.30.
Here

I found solution how to change config file from cisco vpn client *.pcf files to vpnc *.conf files.
That page has link to page that can decrypt group password ( work fine for me ).

I like my page better. (I'm just teasing, my page was really primarily CentOS specific, and the important thing is that you got it working)

I prefer the pcf2vpnc script, but that's just personal preference. (I'm aware of the link in the Debian article, and it probably *is* easier to use for most people.)

Please do take note, however, that it's VERY important to use vpnc-disconnect when done, if your Cisco VPN provides a DNS server. The vpnc program will temporarily backup and replace your /etc/resolv.conf. If you just let the session time out, and don't use vpnc-disconnect, it won't put the usual /etc/resolv.conf back in place.
