How do I install Flash 10 on Fedora 11

Hello all

I have just installed Fedora 11. Its the first time I have used Linux and I'm absolutely stumped on how to install stuff. I have managed to download the yum version of the download from adobe into my downloads folder, but I don't have a clue what to do next. I know I need to log in as root (I've managed to work out how to do this), but I don't know how to take it forward from there.

Is there anyone out there that can help?

If it's 32bit Fedora, go to Adobe website, click on Flash. On the drop-down for operating system be sure to get the .rpm download. Once in your download directory, you can right-click the file and select 'Open with Software Installer'

If it's 64bit, you can d/l from here:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

...it's @ the bottom of the page...

Un-tar the file and take the 'libflashplayer.so' file and manually move or copy to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ directory... Restart Firefox, put aboutlugins into address bar and you should see it as loaded & ready to go.

Hi guys

thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm afraid I don't know how to navigate to the directory where the package is saved after I log in as root. I'm also not sure how to untar the file.

I've now managed to unpackage the downloaded file and to get the libflashplayer file from the tar.gz download, but I dont know how to move the file the plugins. I have tried to drag and drop, but I do not have the permission to do so.

I've got it working. I believe the steps that I followed were

1. Go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

2. Select Yum for linux

3. Save the file to disk. It will be saved into downloads (on the desktop double click on user home and then on downloads.

4. Right click and set the file to install.

5. Go to applications (at the top left of the screen), select system tools and then terminal.

6. Log in as the root user. To do this type 'su' and then press enter. You will then be prompted for a password which you selected at set up. Type this in and then press enter. The first word of the prompt should now have changed from user to root.

7. type 'yum install flash-plugin' and press enter. The plugin for firefox will start to install. Click yes when it asks you to.

8. When the installation is complete type 'exit'. You can then close down the terminal window.

9. Open firefox and navigate to http://translate.google.co.uk/transl...hl=en&ie=UTF-8. Hopefully you'll be able to see the video.

My apologies if I missed anything out here or got some of the steps wrong. I've done quite a lot of stuff that didn't work so I'm not 100% sure the above is the correct procedure.

Simple, we are doing by manual!

Go to adobe.com to download tar.gz
Extract file downloaded
copy libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
Restart firefox

With this way, you can receive newest version, easy-to-use, easy-to-install and upgrade if new version is out!

Easy way:
become root then:
rpm -Uvh http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/linux...0-1.noarch.rpm

and you can install Flash and adobe reader by add/remove software

You can check blog for details:
