secure log

incoming connections are not being reported to my /var/log/secure. I can't see if people are trying to connect. I can't troubleshoot because I can't do anything.

where would this be logging to?

please help.

I like to use iptables to log incoming stuff. You can find info on logging with iptables at www.netfilter.org

I can't even see if someone is trying to login. It does not show me any incoming connections in /var/log/secure or /var/log/messages.

do you know where I can see this?

Did you turn off syslog?

No. it shows certain things. I added a new user and it showed that in the /var/log/secure file.

you were right, it did have to do with the syslog. I restarted it and now it is reporting properly. I have no idea why it wasn't working properly before. thanks for the help
