Exclamation [SOLVED] Flash videos playing too fast Fedora 14, 15, 16 (updated))

This might help you when your flash plays too fast and you have a strong video card like an ATI or Nvidia.

First answer this:
Do you have a video card with an HDMI port on it?

If you aren't sure you can look for this: (FWI its close to the same size as a VGA port)

If you answered yes, follow these steps and hopefully it will solve the Youtube Flash issue.

(KDE Instructions)

Kicker Menu > Computer > System Settings > Multimedia

Select "Phonon" on the left.

With Phonon selected, click on "Audio Output" at the top.
Notice the "(HDMI)" next to one of the devices on the right lol?

Simply click the HDMI device and then click "Defer" a few times, this should solve your Flash problems permanently.

(GNOME 3 Instructions)

system settings > Sound > Hardware Tab

Select one of the devices, then look down a little further at "Profile"
If it shows (HDMI) in the profile box, click the dropdown menu and select "Off"
Done!

The reason why this happens is HDMI is both video AND audio. If both are being processed through a video card, theres nothing slowing it down for normal playback.

Will add instructions for these later when they are in high demand:
LXDE
XFCE

Re: [SOLVED] Flash videos playing too fast Fedora 14

silentblue1987 - Thanks a ton for the info! I just installed Fedora KDE for the first time to my machine last night, and have been battling for a better part of the day to figure out why flash wasn't working properly.

Re: [SOLVED] Flash videos playing too fast Fedora 14

OK, that may work for KDE, but what about other interfaces such as ?Gnome? (I think that's what I have).

Instead of "Kicker Menu > Computer > System Settings > Multimedia", what do I look for?

Applications -> Sound & Video --> ???
System -> Preferences/Administration -> ???

TIA
=============================
SOLVED?
My movie viewer had been 'totem' which had been experiencing the speed problem.

Just as an experiment, I installed/tried 'vlc' (available via System--> Administrative-->Add/Remove Software).

It immediately performed "normal speed" playbacks, AND when I revisited 'totem' it too performed properly.

The use of 'vlc' is also suggested at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...codecs-880890/

FWIW ...

Thanks. I was having issues in both F15 and F16.

Just changed the output device in System Setting -> Audio to a device that wasn't HDMI.

Re: [SOLVED] Flash videos playing too fast Fedora 14

At the time i wasn't familiar with Gnome enough to know how to make this change, i'll try to find the steps involved for gnome.

as for totem.. i have no idea for why that one's acting up. I was doing this guide for internet flash lol.

VLC has never had playback issues except for sound, and especially so when certain groups push a release outside of the normal schedule.. *cough*PULSE*cough*
