Question Virtualbox broke my clean F17 install :(

Hi,

I'm a new old Linux user (used Linux long time ago and now comes back to it !). I installed very easily F17 on my Macbook air (all hardware fully supported and working out of the box
Then I started to install additional softwares I needed including VirtualBox as I need Windows for few boring softwares existing only on it ! I installed Virtualbox easily downloading the RPM from Oracle, started it, imported my Windows system in it, everything goes fine.
Then I wanted to restart system and then it was the end When system restarted, after Fedora logo filled, and when it's supposed to switch to graphic, I got a kernel panic (and could see among garbage text displayed that it looked to be while loading services relative to VirtualBox
So I made a hard restart and then had an issue with Grub and True Font (found solution about it), but then now my system boots in Emergency mode
How can I get out of that ? and thanks VirtualBox for having crashed my system that was working really nice

Thanks for help,

Vincèn

First search for other posts about virtualbox issues in the forum and in wiki.fedoraproject.org
That is, if you can't simply remove it.

I don't have it here but I think it doesn't play well with Fedora. Maybe VMWare or some open-source alternative?

Well VMWare was my first try but I didn't succeed to get it working, it complains about missing Kernel headers files unless they are well installed in system perhaps will give it an other try with VMWare but my attempt to return back to Linux is going wrong

Thanks,

The so called "True font issue" is no issue!
It is not!
Really, it doesnt matter at all, its just "optic".

Virutalbox works just fine on my computer.
But havent had any luck with VMware, allthouth i prefer it on Windows systems.

Me have a script to install Vbox: http://sea.hostingsociety.com/?p=Scripts&stc=sea-tpp
Does this code segment help you?:
Code:
su
wget http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/fedora/virtualbox.repo -P /etc/yum.repos.d
yum install "VirtualBox-4.* kernel*devel kernel*headers"
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

If you are in failsafe, you should be able to get rid of it fairly easily, then reboot.

I suggest you to use virt-manager to avoid these problems, or qemu-kvm directly.

Re: Virtualbox broke my clean F17 install :(

Thanks for all your help but finally I didn't want to lose too much time in tweaking and finding solution (ok I'm lazy ) and so I reinstalled from scratch F17, and then installed DKMS first and then Virtualbox and it works fine now

Thanks again,

Vincèn
