Missing GDM "Login Preferences"

Hello all:

A longtime Ubuntu/Debian/*BSD user here giving Fedora 11 a try. I have discovered a small problem, it appears that gdmsetup is not installed.

* There's no option under Gnome's 'Preferences -> Main Menu' editor utility to add it to the Administration menu.

* There's no option (as in Debian) to select a login session titled "Configure GDM" or something similar, supply the root password and bring up the GDM login preferences utility directly.

* There appears to be no 'gdmsetup' in root's path.

* and... there appears to be a bug filed for it. It appears to be an upstream problem that's existed since 2008!

Am I correct in assuming that gdmsetup is not installed and/or working in Fedora Core 11? Anyone else have this problem? Is there a known workaround? I can't be the only one who wants to change some of GDM's settings.

gdmsetup is not installed in Fedora or any distribution which ships a current version of Gnome. Everyone has the "problem". Yup. Nope.

Ahhh, so it is "feature". My apologizes for not RTFMing, I suppose I'm used to the older version of GDM that ships with Debian.

With a quick skim through the manual it appears all GDM configuration is done either via gconftool2 or central configuration files. It appears that Gnome devs are dropping support for GDM themes (at least as far as I can tell).

From the gentleman who is responsible for the Shiki/Arc-Colors themes:
Quote:
This is probably the last release for Arc-Colors. The new GDM framework does not support GDM theming and currently has no graphical tools. Ubuntu was the last major distribution holding on to the old GDM framework, but this will be changed for Ubuntu Karmic. The wallpapers will probably just be merged with Shiki-Colors in the future.

There are bugs already filed, and GNOME developers already have their hands full with this - so it's best not to make things worse and just adapt to the new GDM and wait until the developers can work their usual magic in the future.
At the very least, I'd like to change the fonts (the non-xft Sans looks huge). I'll poke around and see what I can find. Thanks for your reply.

The gdm theme follows the default system theme. So *some* theming is still possible.

Have a look in /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc.
