WMA to MP3

Hola

I have some old WMA files that were originally purchased on Amazon as MP3's and windows media player converted them to WMA's. Now I've installed the free codec for MP3 in Rhythmbox and I want to use those old WMA's but I have no idea how to convert them back. 1) Since I bought them originally in MP3 format, are there any issues with converting them back? How do I do it?

Thanks!

Use lame. You'll need to study up on how to use it, as it has a ton of options.

Re: WMA to MP3

Assuming you have ffmpeg installed, you could try somethiing like :
Code:
ffmpeg -i "input-file.wma" -acodec libmp3lame -ab 160k -ac 2 -ar 44100 "output-file.mp3"
where 'input-file.wma' is your test wma input file and 'output-file.mp3' is the test mp3 encoded output file.

or
Code:
ffmpeg -i "input-file.wma" -acodec mp3 -ab 160k -ac 2 -ar 44100 "output-file.mp3"
and assuming one of those lines worked (lets assume the one with 'libmp3lame' ), you could put all your .wma in one directory, and try:

Code:
for i in *.wma; do ffmpeg -i $i -acodec libmp3lame -ab 160k -ac 2 -ar 44100 ${i%.wma}.mp3; done

right click on the files and select convert and choose .wav

Buy MP3!!!In my region,It's all free! Google offers us genuine music totally free, maybe not available in your country.
But here's a place your can get high quality music from all over the world for free, but its a website in simplified Chinese.

Re: WMA to MP3

So many options...

Can I assume that there are no legal issues in converting these to MP3 since they were originally purchased as MP3 files and probably have no DRM on them? Some of them also came from CD's.

Re: WMA to MP3

I should have also mentioned the application audenc, specifically designed for batch audio conversions.

Or use Sound Exchange (sox) - a veritable Swiss Army Knife for sound.
