VALVE Gabe Newell's take on the future

Valve's Gabe Newell

“The big problem that is holding back Linux is games. People don’t realize how critical games are in driving consumer purchasing behavior. We want to make it as easy as possible for the 2,500 games on Steam to run on Linux as well. It’s a hedging strategy. I think Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space. I think we’ll lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market. I think margins will be destroyed for a bunch of people. If that’s true, then it will be good to have alternatives to hedge against that eventuality."

I am curious too about the viability of Goods and Services in a Digital World.

As for Windows 8, we will see if it is doomed to catastrophe.

Re: VALVE Gabe Newell's take on the future

Lets hope that the interface is so different that my dad finally lets me give him the gift of a free OS, free as in freedom of course. To install a usable sleek DE and not have all the bloat. I just see win8 as a "hey lets try to develop windows and new tablet technologies side by side. If that is so then they will probably try and fail like they did with the zune at moving customers to a crap peace of hardware/software.
