Nvidia releasing optimus linux driver

This is some good news: 319.12 beta driver includes optimus

http://linux.slashdot.org/story/13/0...h-new-features

as I read the linked phoronix thread about this, it sounds like this isn't that great but just better than nothing

I don't get it. What do you mean? The slashdot and phoronix articles are dated around about April 9th

What I was meaning was that some of the comments on phoronix seem to be from developers in the know and they suggest it's not really anywhere close to the full optimus functionality

I understood that! I was just happy that nvidia has developed optimus driver to linux even if not fully functional yet.

Re: Nvidia releasing optimus linux driver

It doesn't matter what they release.

If it isn't GPL, then it is worthless.

Re: Nvidia releasing optimus linux driver

It was very convenient with bumblebee, Even though I use nvidia only once in a while. The HD4000 is more than enough for my linux works.

Now its too many variables to handle. I shouldn't have bought this nvidia based laptop for 1000$.

Re: Nvidia releasing optimus linux driver

Nvidia is on the "permanently banned" list in my house. ESPECIALLY now that AMD has provided open source support for UVD. There is quite literally not one single thing that nvidia can do that AMD can't do *better* (and open source).

Re: Nvidia releasing optimus linux driver

Maybe it will actually work and not make people's eyes bleed with 1024x768 x60.
