KDM Theme Manager

I'm having problems where my theme manager for the login screen wont display newly installed themes. All that shows up is the beefy miracle default theme.

Any thoughts? I've got nothing at this point.

Re: KDM Theme Manager

How did you install the theme?

I've previously used install new themes button but you can also download the theme and extract it to /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/.

It has worked for me previously but I'm not on a KDE machine at the moment so I can't try it.

Check the directory I mentioned above. In it you should see a directory for each of the themes you have installed. Sometimes it helps to logout and back in for the Settings to see newly installed themes but it shouldn't be necessary.

Re: KDM Theme Manager

I am on a laptop. I know that can be different for some cases that I've run into and I'm wondering if it's the case this time. I'll check the dir and let you know.

That should be: /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes

Re: KDM Theme Manager

I ran into some issues with the theme manager for kdm here.

What I had to do to get new themes installed was to sign into KDE as root, and install the kdm themes as root user (using the GUI theme selector, and click on the install new themes button) , then they were available for the regular users.

Edit:

If I installed them as a regular user, then they just disappeared and didn't show up as being installed.

That's probably because of where they need to be installed. I guess it should ask for authorisation. If it doesn't it should be reported as a bug or maybe raised on the kde mailing list.

Re: KDM Theme Manager

Yea, I agree. It's probably a bug in there someplace.

I don't know if it was reported or not, I didn't report it. Every time I ran into it, I was busy, and then it slipped my mind to report the darned thing.

Looks like it's fixed in 18 - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=858705
