Personally I would rather try the linux kernel and GNU userland with the FreeBSD ports system.

Exactly what I was thinking.

If I had to pick one, Arch wins hands-down. At least it works better than a circa-1992 system.

But since I don't have to pick, I'll take neither. I'm not going to spend 4 hours setting up a system just to make sure some obscure 200K library doesn't somehow get included and "infect" my "minimal" install.
