As far I know, the Windows way of working is not possible out of the box. However, there are some possibilities:
A.
You can use "vncserver" to start a VNC session which is completely independent of the main desktop.
B. Xrdp: Like A, but more control from the client side. I do not know whether it's packaged or that you have to compile it from scratch. The Windows remote desktop client is used.
C. NX or the FreeNX version. Easy to install/use and you can choose to take over the foreground session or to have an independent session. Very fast.
And may be some more possibilities,
