Linksys WPC54G ver 3 and Fedora 10/GNOME

Hello,

I am running GNOME (Fedora 10) and I have a Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter Model No: WPC54G ver 3 card and it is not recognized by the computer. When I place it into the slot the network card will have a green light next to power, but the hardware browser will not see it.

How do I make this work? I can't seem to find the drivers on the internet that can be installed on my OS.

HELP!

Rebecca

I ACCEPT THAT F10 IS EOL, BUT IT'S WHAT I USE AT SCHOOL.

Backup data, install F12 & update it. F10 is EOL.

Good afternoon, Rebecca.

Nokia is correct in that F10 has reached end-of-life, but I suspect you already knew that. <....>

What you're going to have to do is chase down the exact chipset your wireless card uses, and if available, install the correct drivers. That being said, the best option is to always install packages and drivers from the standard repos.

Look back through your dmesg log and see if it lists the chipset asking for firmware.

I understand and accept that F10 is EOL, but it's what we use in class. I'm just trying to get my laptop to connect to the internet without a wire

What website is most efficient to find the drivers. It is a Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter Model No: WPC54G ver 3. Whenever I Google it, it gives me a lot of websites that have not given me the proper driver. One of them even gave me an executable that of course isnt a Linux product.

Ok, run the following in a terminal (as a normal user should be fine) after plugging in your wireless card, then post the results here.

Code:
dmesg

Hey,

I'm at school and I have my laptop connected in our linux network classroom. It's currently downloading and installing openoffice (yay). I'll be able to do this again at 3pm AZ time and I'll copy/paste the results to the two commands then.

Thanks,

Rebecca

Ayup. Sounds like a splendid plan.

Rebecca, I think I'll leave this one to Nokia. He's a lot sharper in these things than I am.

Thanks, Nokia.

EDIT: In case it is needed, here's a shotgun-approach zipped firmware file (pilfered from an Ubuntu install <....>) which can be unpacked into the appropriate directory.

firmware.tar.bz2

Hmmm. This might help. http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=228418
