dual monitor issue after f16 update

Hi,
i'm running F16
[3.6.6-1.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Nov 5 16:56:43 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux] on a FSC laptop with an integrated video card
[VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960]

I've connected an iiyama ProLite monitor and the setup worked without a hitch until recently, when i got an automatic kernel update.

The dual setup still worked except when i wasn't logged in. The bios output, the fedora splash screen all of that got displayed on the iiyama. but the logon window appears on the laptop screen only. after logging in the display switches back to iiyama and the laptop goes black... and when i log off the login window appears on the laptop again including the power down icons etc.

so now i'm shutting the computer down from a terminal using 'shutdown' but the login is still a pain. I've done a yum update but nothing seems to help.

would appreciate any ideas.

cheers,
michael
