Since FC24 sound skips sometimes with pulseaudio

Hello,

I have noticed this using mplayer (every 30 minutes or so), and also on youtube (on youtube it happens more often actually, say every 10 mins), but randomly, i.e. impossible to predict. I have even disabled all cronjobs, and it still happens.
Sound just "skips", missing say half a second or so, sometimes. You notice it when people speak, suddenly a word is missing. This could be a video/sound sync issue. But the files which played ok on FC23, now fail on FC24/25.

Interestingly, this manifests itself on my wife's old (very old) Vaio Laptop, in a different fashion. When the laptop starts you can hear "loud chirps", and then randomly, say 4 or 5 times during the day, the thing just chirps. Wife thinks there's an insect running around inside LOL. I have not checked playing video there yet, since her laptop is to slow for that.

I run pulseaudio, and I have not tested this in any other sound configuration.

UPDATE: if I rewind the video a few seconds and continue, the same place where it skipped before, does not skip again.

Me thinks it's a buffer underrun, but I don't know the innards of pulseaudio or alsa to be certain.

Try this:

Code:
su -c 'gedit /etc/pulse/default.pa'
and replace the line: load-module module-udev-detect

with: load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0

Then run this command

Code:
pulseaudio -k
It worked for me a couple of years ago for the same problem, although I haven't modified my current default.pa and am not having the problem. If it doesn't work or causes other problems just change it back.

Re: Since FC24 sound skips sometimes with pulseaudio

cheers SDF,

I tried it, seems to work better. I was able to detect only 2 faults in about 3 hours. The faults are different though, they manifest in a small 1/4 second "fast looping" of a piece of sound.

but much better. I will see what happens after a reboot.

and I haven't tested it in wife's chirping old Vaio yet.
