Firefox 3.5 problem in Fedora 11

Hi friends
I am new to this forum site. This is my first post here. I use fedora 11. Few days before unknowingly I deleted the mozilla and firefox folders from /usr/lib. Actually i was trying to update it, but did not update. Therefore I removed firefox from my system, at this time I also removed the two folder (mozilla and firefox). Now the problem is, when I try to install firefox using
Code:
yum install firefox
This does not work. yum says it has no match for firefox. So, I downloaded a .tar file and extracted it. I do not know what is the problem but the files firefox and firefox-bin both do not run from the terminal. I changed the directory to, where I downloaded firefox, then I issued the command
Code:
sh firefox.sh
But it said, there is no such file.
Now, is this a problem because I removed the directories from /usr/lib. If so please tell me where to create the necessary directories. One more question, where are the firefox directories located after I download and install firefox using
Code:
yum install firefox
Thanks in advance.

Hi blueprats,

Have you tried to remove the software through YUM?
Code:
# yum remove firefox
Maybe there's some sort of conflict between the yum index and the physical files, or lack there of, on your machine. Firefox is definitely in the Fedora repository. Do a YUM search and see what the result is.

When you do install Firefox via yum, the files are typically stored in your "/usr/lib/" or "/usr/lib64/" directory as "firefox-{whatever the version number is}/". Are you running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Fedora?

You can also do a global search on your system for Firefox and see what comes up:
Code:
$ locate firefox
or
$ locate -i firefox # this does a non-case-sensitive search

I did knew this command, thanks for that. But the search results are only the folders where I have downloaded the firefox.

What do you mean exactly by that? If there are conflicts, how can I sort these conflicts. Any advice or suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Hi blueprats,

I wish I could give you specific examples, but I'm not on my machine when replying to you. There seems to be something wrong with your repository. Firefox should be in there. Find your "Repository Manager" and see what you have selected. I think you can find it by clicking on "System | Administrator | Add/Remove Packages". The "repo manager" should be an option in the file menu. It'll look something like this:

See if this link can help you. http://docs.fedoraproject.org/user-g..._software.html
