Great clip - thanks, Dan! Never heard him before, but sure will be checking out his other videos.

Re: Why were/are Linux users sometimes rude?
I find that this forum is a rather better than many others that I know. Most people are trying to be polite and helpful. Even when they explain 253 times over how to reinstall grub.

Re: Why were/are Linux users sometimes rude?
I know I used to be quite rude to Linux users when I first signed up here. Now I use Linux.

Yes, mmix, I agree, nice Forum with some great people around here, even if we do agree to disagree on some things, I guess that keeps things interesting .
For kudos, well, Dan and bob are steady hands at the helm around here and I hope they stick around here and keep things ticking along (including the other forum admins and retired ). Also those people who are often helping others here, it's great

Re: Why were/are Linux users sometimes rude?
I don't use fedora much these days, so I seldom log in, but not a day goes by that I do not check in here; mainly because of the "gentlemanlyness" of this place. Oh, some come off poorly with personal insults, but that is perhaps balanced by the quality of the the information in their posts. Sheriff Dan does a remarkable job of keeping this place running smoothly. Someday, if I ever get to Texas, I will be buying him pie and coffee, and whatever else he wants.
I finally got to try Gnome 3 when I did the radeon test day trials for Adam. Not much change from a couple of years ago, when I did them for fedora 14. I do know that I won/t be using Gnome 3 .. took way too long to get things done, compared to what it would have using Gnome 2. But again...different strokes for different folks.
Anyway, thanks to all,
regards,
Bob

Here at the Fedora forums I can't speak highly enough of the community that seems to be here and even though Fedora isn't my main distro, it's one of the reasons I'm always here.
Another great community is the Crunchbang community.
However, yes, there will always be elitists out there and I'm sorry you've had a bad experience. It does and will happen, but hopefully the good/helpful users are a much bigger majority than the bad.

It is pretty draconian in the PCLinuxOS forum too, since Texstar retired, and gave the form to a mod who will not let you talk about the 64 bit version, even though it is available for download and works just fine. I have been banned from there twice now.
I like the group here at Fedora Forum too, nice bunch of Linux fanatics thumbing their noses at corporate software and helping each other in times of need.

Re: Why were/are Linux users sometimes rude?
Sheesh! I just read this thread again. Cripes! It's enough to give a guy a big head. <.. ..>
Fortunately, I simply stand on the shoulders of giants around here, in the company of good men. The general rules and tone of this forum were established and entrenched long before I got here. (by strong and talented men -- and crochety old f... erm .. folks like ... Ol' Bob. <.. ..> ) And now we have a kick-arse staff hanging around, both of past and present service, consisting of very good men who do great work behind the scenes, and out here on the boards. Without them, and the solid work they freely donate, my little pipsqueak voice wouldn't amount to much more than a fart in a whirlwind. <.. ..>

Re: Why were/are Linux users sometimes rude?
It usually depends on distro. Fedora and PCLinuxOS seems to have attracted mostly nice people who are helpful. Ubuntu forums is the hunting grounds for many trolls.
The advanced distros such as Arch, Gentoo and Slackware usually have a rude tone to newbies simply because they dont want newbies. Those distros are for experienced users and the most of the newbie stuff is handled in manuals. Asking newbie question simply mean you arent willing to search for an answer yourself so why should the community help you.

Yikes! <.. ..>
I can see now that I should have slammed the lid shut on this one, screwed it down tight ... and snapped off the heads. <.. ..>
