No ethernet connection
I recently bought a new x86 pc, have Comcast cable internet, and a NetGear WNDR3300 wireless router. Installed Fedora 17, and I have no internet access. The other four cpu's on my network all have internet, access, but sadly, I have nothing. Even straight connection from the cable modem gives no access. Router won't even show that the cable is plugged in.
Any help would be appreciated, I've been using Fedora for a long time, and am frustrated.
Thanks to the commuity...

Oops, Community.
I had Fed 17 on my 32-bit machine with no problems. After upgrading to the x86 system, I am frustrated because of the lack of internet access, and I cannot download rpms or make any changes to my Fed 17 system that require downloads of any kind. Feels like being stranded on a desert island without a leatherman tool, and I do not wish to downgrade to Fed 16, when I can boot into Windows 7 and everything works fine.

Re: No ethernet connection
It *SOUNDS* like you had the 32-bit i686 installed successfully, then you re-installed (not upgrade) to the 64-bit x86_64 version.
Would you care to post any hints - or should we guess ?

Post the output from these two command.
Use cut&paste.
systemctl status NetworkManager.service
ip addr

Re: No ethernet connection
Thanks for the reply.
That is exactly the case, I absent-mindedly used my 32-bit Fed 17 DVD install disc, then realized the mistake after the fact, and re-installed using the x86 64-bit disc, and did not use upgrade, I did a fresh re-install from the x86 disc.

Re: No ethernet connection
So now what, is there no resolution to this? I re-installed, it allowed me to do a complete yum os update, and kicks out my wireless network before it even connects. Still no wired network at all. Not a fan of spring Fedora releases, and definitely not a fan of Fed 17 right now.

I re-formatted everything, and I am still having problems with the Gnome 3 Destop. It always seems to start out in airplane mode, and then when you uncheck, it becomes broken. When you ask for your wireless connection, it finds it, and connects, and then times out every thirty seconds, without ever connecting. Except fpr the first time when it installs, it installs all of the updates, however, when you reboot, all internet access is gone. Have to go, Linux wants me to authenticate the wireless connection again that isn't going to work.

Re: No ethernet connection
Hmm, maybe you can try one of the other dozen desktops instead of Gnome? I know wired ethernet works on all my KDE Fedora 17 machines. When you install did you go into system-config-network tool and try to create the wired interface? Or use the NetworkManager on the desktop to make the wired i/f ?

Re: No ethernet connection
Which kernel are you using?
What kind of wireless chip do you have?
What kind of ethernet chip do you have?
Did you click on the on button to enable the wired connection?
Are both ends of the ethernet cable plugged in?

I would be very surprised if desktop environment had anything to do with this, as the networking infrastructure is either statically configured or handled by NetworkManager. Desktop environments only provide front-end applets for interacting with NetworkManager.
Is there anything in /var/log/message relating to networking errors?

Re: No ethernet connection
Since I have no internet access with Fed 17, I have had to post using my Windows 7.
Realtek RTL8188 CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC
Atheros AR8162/8166/8168 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)
Intel Pentium CPU B970 @ 2.30 GHz dual processors
The airplane mode button was off, the wireless button was on, however the wireless notification
said that the wireless network was unavailable. Toggling the wireless button on or off did
not help this. ethernet cable is plugged in, netflix is working on my blu-ray so I know the
wireless router is working.
