Fedora - KDE - Display Control Freeze

First hello everyone, I just joined the forums. Hoping to find some help.

I just installed 2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i586 i686 with kde 4.3.1, I have installed all security, bug-fixes and enhancement updates.

(system has radeon x1950 Pro)

Under System settings then clicking on display makes the system lock up; no input at all even numlock key freezes and forces a shut-down. While searching for a fix I keep finding patches to older systems before this release but nothing that seems current.

Open to suggestions and recommendations. Thanks in advance for the time.

Obviously, this should not happen. But in the meantime, there are probably other ways to accomplish whatever it is that you want to do with the display setup - so: what is it that you want to change ?

mostly I would like to turn off mirroring for the dual screen monitors I have. At the same time would like to be able to change resolutions and monitor locations--preferable via the GUI. When I had GNOME loaded I could do this--but I like KDE better. I am just really unsure what to check as for why it does this.

I don't know why this is happening either. In the meantime... you want a GUI tool. Well then, try:
sudo yum install system-config-display

which is no longer installed by default. Use system-config-display to set system-wide options. Open krandrtray from the menus and use it to adjust desktop display options.

See if those two apps meet your needs.

Thanks; system-config-dispaly did install; however, it does not support my max resolution. I am leary to change this in fear of not being able to keep 1440x900.
krandrtry does the same as the display options.

What needs to be done to generate a bug w/ KDE or to help give back to the community to help ensure that others do not have the same problem?

Does anyone else have ideas on this one?

Almost certainly not a KDE problem. In order to determine what is the root cause, please post:
xrandr -q

and attach (do NOT post) files:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf (if exists)
/var/log/Xorg.0.log

P.S. Bugs go to Fedora/Red Hat Bugzilla - see the "Fedora Jump" feature at top right of page. They'll determione if it needs to be pushed upstream (e.g.: to KDE Project).
