execution reports for crontab

how do i obtain a report listing for when each crontab item was executed, started, finished, etc? and the execution history for each job.

at work i use autosys and that is easy to get using the autorep command but i am not so familiar how to do it in cron

That info is in /var/log/cron. Looking at rkhunter in my cron log I get:

[root@blackhole glenn>$ grep -i rkhunter /var/log/cron
Sep 23 03:38:19 blackhole run-parts(/etc/cron.daily)[25130]: starting rkhunter
Sep 23 03:40:55 blackhole run-parts(/etc/cron.daily)[6851]: finished rkhunter
Sep 24 00:00:01 blackhole /USR/SBIN/CROND[31548]: (root) CMD (rkhunter --propupd)
Sep 24 00:00:01 blackhole /USR/SBIN/CROND[31563]: (root) CMD (rkhunter -c --sk)
Sep 24 03:14:11 blackhole run-parts(/etc/cron.daily)[26496]: starting rkhunter
Sep 24 03:16:50 blackhole run-parts(/etc/cron.daily)[8097]: finished rkhunter

You can also use the log file viewer.
