LV and 'root device'

Aside from forcing a disk check (already done) at boot, do I need to do anything else to repair/check my ROOT volume? Or am I in the early stages of losing my system drive?

Three times this week, after doing a 'soft' reboot (restart from menu), my installation starts, then complains (twice) 'no root device found' and then 'sleeping forever'. However, when I actually power off the system and turn it back on, it boots normally/as it should.

Plans today are to image the drive, but I am hoping drive loss isn't the case.

Thanks.

Addendum - don't think it's a drive problem at all now. I notice that when I have the problem, the BIOS doesn't detect one of my DVD drives. Though I've reset and reconfigured the BIOS, the problem continues. My suspicion is that a recent power outage has cooked something, albeit minor. Am guessing I'll be shopping for a new MB. (Hate those power outages where is doesn't go out 'cleanly' and instead browns out first - tree limbs, etc.).
