Wine 1.5.8 breaks software. . . .

I use a Sigma SD15 camera which make x3f raw camera files. Sigma Photopro 4.2 and 5.2.1 worked very well using 'Wine' 1.4.1. With this new update both programs are broken using both 32 and 64-bit computers. The error msg I get on my 32-bit laptop is as follows:

Unhandled exception: assertion failed in 32-bit code (0xb7789424).

System information:
Wine build: wine-1.5.8
Platform: i386
Host system: Linux
Host version: 3.4.4-5.fc17.i686

This software will work with wine 1.4.1 but presently crashes as shown. Any help is appreciated in getting these programs to work once again because the x3f raw photo files can only be processed by the present software offered by Sigma. It would be nice if they would release their proprietary workings so that it would be made available to Linux users using their cameras. . . .

I'm afraid I'll have to go back to Kubuntu with Wine 1.4.1 unless this can be fixed. . .. .

Why don't you try compiling 1.4.1

You will probably find more help in the wine forums. I did.

Re: Wine 1.5.8 breaks software. . . .

This won't help, but I had to stop upgrading wine way back with v1.3.14 for sort of a similar reason. Quicken started misbehaving when Fedora 14 updated from wine-1.3.14-2.fc14.i686 to wine-1.3.16-1.fc14.i686. The other few Windows apps that I use wine for continued working normally. Only Quicken went off the rails. I continued to try newer versions as they came. No change. I submitted a bug report that Andreas Bierfert commented in, but that was the end of it. I'm not blaming him or anybody at Wine about it. I use an old version of Quicken (2004), so how can they possibly fix every situation that busts some ancient Windows app.

So ever since then, I compiled v1.3.14 from source in Fedora, Arch, and now in Linux from Scratch. Wine is easy to compile from source. So if you like your current Fedora system best, this incident doesn't mean you have to ditch it and go back to that Kubuntu system. You easily can compile from source the version of wine that works for you in Fedora. This may not be what you wanted to hear, but it's true.

Re: Wine 1.5.8 breaks software. . . .

I started to compile the 1.4.1 version last night. . . . .got thru ./configure and had to install 2 packages. . .no big deal then when it came to compiling the 2O megabyte file I was well way up into the night past 11 o'clock and it was still compiling (as far as I can remember I was into it about 1 hr and it still wasn't finished) so I had to shut her down and get to bed. . .. was wondering would any rpm files made for other OS systems possible work like the ones you can find? If not I'll just have to bite the bullet and start the recompilation again today. .. .

Re: Wine 1.5.8 breaks software. . . .

I imagine it would have finished soon. I think I remember wine taking maybe thirty minutes to an hour to compile for me. I'm using an ordinary Intel Pentium dual core processor. No parallel processes specified for make (but you could try that). I'm using only BLFS now, so I compile everything it has. I may have developed more patience for that stuff than people used to package managers and binaries.

I have not tried any rpm for other os. Give it a shot. You can always remove the rpm if it does not work.

or you may want to play with wine 1.5 and the DLL's.
