Re: Fedora 16: freezes every day!
Ok, I now realize I've been using chrome's built-in pdf reader for too long.
Using the Evince Document Viewer to read a pdf and scrolling the view for a while will trigger the freeze.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to further debug this/what other log files to look at, now that I can trigger the freeze when I want?
The output of /var/log/messages: (right after boot i opened a pdf scrolled... and the pc froze)

Next i'm going to test if this happens in the Forced Fallback Mode.

Re: Fedora 16: freezes every day!
Running a Hybrid SLI setup between an Nvidia GeForce 9400 and GeForce G210M.
I get freezes too when using the nouveau driver. The mouse still is able to move but I cannot select anything. Cannot run ctrl-alt-f3. I end up having to ssh from another machine and kill Xorg (since it is sucking up 100%).The proprietary driver didn't have these issues but gnome shell was really slow and choppy.

Re: Fedora 16: freezes every day!
I had some trouble with the desktop freezing in KDE. It seems to be related to a large (1TB) Western Digital USB drive that I sometimes have plugged in. Everything works fine for a couple of hours after I have connected the USB drive, then everything freezes. When I unplug it, everything starts working. Maybe Nepomuk indexes the USB drive and causes the freeze.

For me is all the opposite I have a USB WiFi adapter (RTL8187) and before Gnome3 I had no problems with it ... now with Fedora 16 and Gnome3 I can't leave my laptop without the USB adapter plugged. Let me explain, if I turn it on without the WiFi adapter gnome-shell fails to start ... I can move the mouse but only the wallpaper is displayed on the screen ... at this point I have to use a tty (Ctrl + Alt + F3) and reboot from it.
After the reboot if I plug the usb wifi adaprter the system boot normal and gnome-shell runs fine (a bit slow due to my old hardware X1200 integrated ATI )
I'm really confused by this behavior ... I'm almost sure it's related to "NetworkManager" because if I boot the system in the "right" way (with the usb wifi adapter) but disable NetworkManager from the terminal with " service NetworkManager stop " it freezes again ...
I haven't read anyone have the same issue ... Haven't had time to test this with a wired connection ...

Re: Fedora 16: freezes every day!
So today Fedora 16 froze again on my Thinkpad T510. A Complete freeze, cannot change to tty with crtl+alt+Fn keys and I had to power off the machine.
I am running Fedora 16 with KDE (kernel: 3.2.5-3.fc16.x86_64), did a complete new install a few weeks ago. Have the newest updates and the kmod-nvidia driver. Also use an external monitor connection to my laptop, the only non-KDE programs I had running were conky, pidgin, and tomboy.
My /var/log/messages is full of messages about:
Feb 15 03:04:49 computer dbus-daemon[1059]: ** (upowerd:1388): WARNING **: Property get or set does not have an interface string as first arg
Feb 15 03:04:49 computer dbus-daemon[1059]: ** (upowerd:1388): WARNING **: Property get or set does not have an interface string as first arg
These are the only entries close to the point of the hard freeze.
It is really puzzling and frustrating.

Re: Fedora 16: freezes every day!
Same thing has been happening to me. Not on my IBM ThinkPad. Only a desktop with a ATI Radeon 9500
card. Usuallyhappens when using firefox and browsing the web. Hate to say that the desktop does not
hang when running Windows XP. If you have hangs then look at your log file:

I rebuilt libdrm-2.4.31 and installed. No hang yet.

Re: Fedora 16: freezes every day!
Running in Forced Fallback Mode avoided this issue for me.
System Settings -> search for System Info -> Graphics -> Forced Fallback Mode = On; then reboot
You lose all the fancy Gnome3 shell UI stuff, but at least it doesn't freeze up. Looks a lot like Gnome2, but not quite.

i had the same problem, 4-5 freezes a day
I configured the BIOS [Asus P6T SE],
* disabled the auto overclocking & speedstep tech.
* set the correct RAM freq. (1333MHz)
* Disabled ACPI and enabled ACPI 2.0
**on my pc it was the ACPI APIC Support try to disable it (win7 can't start after this )
no freezes up to now, i can even scroll a 500page pdf without errors

Re: Fedora 16: freezes every day!
I'm having this problem on a HP DM1Z-4000. Only recovery I've found yet is a hard power cycle.
