Can't Update Because of Intermittent Network

I'm running Federa12 on my Asus EeePC 1005HA and I can't upgrade my system because my network connection flakes in and out. I'm connecting to the D-Link DIR-655 802.11n router. Any hints or ideas? I'd rather solve this than just plug-in the ethernet cable.

Thanks, in-advance.

Its difficult for others to determine why your wireless connection is flaky, since there may be several reasons for that:
- issue with the driver for your network card
- issues due to the building were you live
- issues with your router
- issues with other electrical devices

For me, wireless was never stable enough to use it regularly, since the walls in my appartment seem to reduce signal strength dramatically. On other occasions, I found wireless to provide a much less stable connection, so I ususally don't use it if I have to to big downloads.

Yeah... after I read your post, I realized I didn't point-out I have no wireless issues at all on my Ubuntu or Moblin installs on the same machine.

Can you ping outwards, while this is happening?

If it is working well in Ubuntu and Moblin, then maybe its worth to compare their drivers with what Fedora has installed.

When the network "drops," for lack of a better term, there is no connectivity. I'm really not sure what's happening.

Hmm... that's not a bad idea at all. I'm not sure where to find that information in Fedora or Moblin, though. Any suggestions?

I also tried installing wicd, just to see if it was a Network-Manager issue--I've had those before in Ubuntu--but SELinux wouldn't let it start, so I have to try and figure-out how to allow wicd into my policy. Not really sure there, either.

Re: Can't Update Because of Intermittent Network

For temporary test, you can disable selinux or set it to permissive mode in /etc/selinux/config.

Tried that, but it still won't allow python write access to /etc/wicd/manager-settings.conf.

Any other ideas?
