Installing .deb files

Well, there's a program which is that I can't install .deb files on Fedora. It used to work when I had Ubuntu, but now when I decided to use Fedora, it doesn't work.

Well, the program that I want to install is LimeWire (http://www.limewire.com).

I tried to install it through Terminal with the following command (as root):
Code:
yum install limewire
But it couldn't find it.

As from their website, I got a .deb installation which I have no idea on how to install. I've also read a few threads here for converting a .deb to .rpm with a program called Alien but it's said it's not 100% successful and I didn't actually know how to install it.

So I will be extremely happy if anybody can provide a way of installing .deb files.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried out Frostwire? Frostwire is an opensource limewire clone, if there isn't some reason you have to use limewire, I would install frostwire instead. Like limewire, frostwire requires java to be installed, Dangermouse wrote a program called autoten that can install frostwire for you, as well as several other useful programs. Check it out at this thread.

Not everything can be in the repos. Fedora is strict about not included copyrighted code in its package repositories.

I'd second the suggestion to go with Frostwire. Another alternative is gtk-gnutella (yum install gtk-gnutella) - uses the same filesharing network as Frostwire and Limewire.

.deb is the native package "format" of Debian and Debian-based distros (like Ubuntu and Mint). Fedora uses .rpm files. I've heard more bad than good about using alien. It's probably a better bet to make an .rpm from the source tarball if you can't find an .rpm prepackaged than to try a dodgy conversion from .deb to .rpm (or vice versa).

There's also gtk-gnutella.
Code:
su -c 'yum install gtk-gnutella'

Yeah, Tom, I'm sure you've *never* posted when someone is typing only to find that what you'd said was already said.

Hrrm, of course, if you're a very fast touch typist, perhaps you haven't. Stefan always did that to me, would post something as I was writing.

An HOUR later?

Check the time stamp Scott!

Besides, knowing Tom as I do I believe he was just being sarcastic in jest.

Who else here doesn't know how to interpret that double? Does that mean I was being sarcastic or being sarcastic about being sarcastic?

Yup, I run into that too. Sometimes, I think I'm funny, and find that I angered someone--living with someone who doesn't have English as their first language should have schooled me, but old dogs, and alll that.

Anyway, I think Sean was just trying to coin a phrase. Which he did, I like it.

By the way (not sure if was this thread or not), I'm sure that the Who performed on the Smothers Brothers.

At JN4 Time is just nature's way of making sure everything doesn't happen at once. Or something like that.

In typical Glennzo fashion I absorbed only half of what I read in the post. No, wait! I ignored it so I could raise my post count
