How to configure mail

Hi guys! I've been reading lots of tutorial about how to configure sendmail with its 2 main files sendmail.cf and sendmail.mc. I have tried to change different macros in sendmail.mc each time restarting sendmail to get it to work but nothing. I am using Fedora 15 and the sendmail program works fine on local host but I want it to work with yahoo smtp. The idea is to use sendmail as Thunderbird, thus receiving and sending emails only using the terminal. It would be great if I could use IMAP instead of SMTP. Can u please help me configuring sendmail????
Thank you!!!

Re: How to configure mail

You don't need sendmail, you could just use the mailx command (which is part of the mailx package in Fedora). See my post here for an example on how to set it up and use it (you can use mailx instead of nail, which is just a link to mailx now). You'll probably get a message saying "Error in certificate: Peer's certificate issuer is not recognized.", but you can ignore it, the mail should still go through.

Re: How to configure mail

One question, Clapclash: after editing sendmail.mc, did you rebuild sendmail.cf before restarting sendmail? If not, your edits wouldn't have any effect.

Re: How to configure mail

OK, good. It wasn't clear to me from the way you wrote your post and I wanted to make sure. Back when I did tech support for a living I learned very quickly that it's better to ask a seemingly dumb question like that rather than assume that the caller Did The Right Thing because every once in a while it turns out that they hadn't, and the question has just saved both of us a lot of time and frustration.
