I've spent the last three hours trying to comprehend all of the info at lirc.org. I've recently bought a used dv6000, which came with a remote. After getting used to Yum and getting everything working, I went after the remote. I installed lirc-* via yum (as well as the Rythmbox plugin) and tried to follow the documentation, but there just seems to be a lot going on.
So far, I know that the remote is working because Rhythmbox responds to practically everything. If Rhythmbox is closed, the volume buttons and the power (sleep) button work fine, but nothing else does anything.
Yet if I follow the lirc.org documentation and try to run mode2, I get an error:
mode2: could not get file information for /dev/lirc0
mode2: default_init(): No such file or directory
It also talks about at least three different configuration files while not telling me which configuration file my remote configuration is supposed to go into or how to set up buttons to launch specific programs (e.g. press "DVD" to start VLC).
