Try launching it from a terminal and see if it spits out anything annoying.
Also, what Java are you using?

I can't say I paid much attention to *how* I downloaded it as it was pretty cut 'n dry, but I do remember pulling a dupe out of it thanks to yum saving the day.
I'll give other methods a shot if all fails.

How do I launch frostwire from the terminal so I can actually read it? The run command doesn't seem to be liking me. When I double-click the folder the Run From Terminal command just spits out a bunch of crap before closing on its own. I can't click anything to stop it or slow it down.
I don't know exactly what the most relevant number is for Java, so I'll retype all that was on the screen: 1.6.0_0
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.6) (Fedora-29.b16.fc11.i386)
Open JDK Cient VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode)
Hope this helps. I certainly need it.

Is there at least a bash command I can use to check frostwire out? I'm open to anything.

Frostwire used to have issues with IcedTea Java. I don't know if it still does. Not sure if that's the issue you're having here.
May want to give the official Sun Java a try.
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...-f11.html#java
To launch frostwire from a terminal, open up a terminal (for gnome that's Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal off the top of my head) and just type frostwire and hit enter.
Another app you could try that doesn't involve Java is gtk-gnutella. yum install gtk-gnutella

I personally would. But the aforementioned link shows how to install Sun Java without removing IcedTea, and then selecting Sun's Java to be used via the alternatives utility, so leaving it shouldn't cause any ill.
Use a full root login to run those commands if you haven't set up your normal account to be a sudoer.

I just ran across this error (Post #23 above) myself, and it is NOT a JAVA problem - it's a FrostWire problem.
On run, frostwire calls it's own unpack200.py script to unpack it's *jar files, but this fails for normal users due to insufficient privileges (critical line: "IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'hashes'"). I suppose SUID on /usr/lib/frostwire/unpack200.py would fix, but I sincerely dislike SUID, so I ran frostwire as root, once, just to unpack the *jar files, canceled the FrostWire GUI, and exited. Now frostwire runs as any normal user. One or two other minor edits of the FrostWire scripts were required also - more "smoke and mirrors".
What a PITA. Would never have bothered if latest LimeWire was available in RPM.

So should I call it quits on FW? I just now revisited this thread considering I now have about 3 media players and no media to use them on. But yeah, clicking on Frostwire gives me a pause and then nothing.
There was another site discussed on here---OnSwarm? Worth a look?

Don't have many suggestions. As for me, I try to avoid Java apps. *shrug*
Did you give Sun Java a try?
If you're not interested in messing around with manually installing Sun Java, maybe just give gtk-gnutella a try? Works great last time I checked. It uses the same network as Frostwire/Limewire.
Code:
yum install gtk-gnutella

I've downloaded so many "X" Java apps I can't wait to see what happens next time I check a repo-dubs list. Truth is I don't know if I have Sun Java but judging from the post preceding my last one it won't matter. How do I know what Java I have---dmesg?
I know limewire but not gnutella. Not that I'm unwilling to try it, just fearful the next series of posts or threads will be me asking how to use it. Anything emulating limewire/winmx et al would be ideal---is gnutella self-explanatory by any chance?

gtk-gnutella uses the same network as Frostwire and Limewire. You'll be searching/downloading the exact same stuff with gtk-gnutella as you would be with Limewire and Frostwire.
That said, the gnutella network is full of fail and AIDs.
Try torrenting.
