My laptop doesn't read my wifi card.

Hi there!!!
I have just instaled fedora 25 (with all the steps after install, like the upgrade), and my wifi isnt working, i had the same issue with ubuntu. In forums of ubuntu nobody seemed to know wich driver is the right one. My card is a broadcom bcm43162 14:43ae rev 02.
Thanks a lot!!

Re: My laptop doesn't read my wifi card.

Broadcom wifi cards are a nightmare on any flavour of Linux due to the closed source drivers - ie until they are hacked by the clever kids the rest of us are stuck.

You MAY get it to work with the "kmod-wl" pkg from the rpmfusion repos.

Install the repos from here: https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration/

Then update your system as usual (sudo dnf update). If you get a new kernel then reboot your machine before you proceed.

You can then install kmod-wl, reboot again and then try to connect

# dnf install kmod-wl
Your mileage may vary.

If you get no luck your only other realistic option is to buy an Intel based card (or Realtek at a push).

Good luck!

Re: My laptop doesn't read my wifi card.

yes this chipset is problematic for most linux distro
a bug filed against Ubuntu for example was not solved

but there appears to be some one or some bodies that have solved it, but it will need you to compile it.

but I am new to Fedora so I will leave it to others to comment if this is worthy of pursuit.

2) I own a laptop with class G speed which I solve by USB dongle class N
which is an option for you.

and I can see you are looking at other laptops in the other thread....but a dongle would be much cheaper

it might help if you gave the make and model of the wifi dongle you found that works gordon64

Re: My laptop doesn't read my wifi card.

umm my current one is a no-name that uses realtek firmware so not sure I should name it

actually I have bought but yet to receive a USB dongle with a WPS button which will be unbelievable good if I can get it to work when it arrives. .....and hide my face in shame if I can't.

anyhow search terms the OP might consider at well known auction site might be

linux 600 Mbps dual band

---then if you are a fair way from router go for 2.4 GHz with a antenna

Please check your router specs as mine do not exceed class N, but that means it will achieve N if you buy the ac class.
