Fedora 17 + Firefox 16.0.2 + GTk themes

The only theme that Firefox adapts to completely is the default adwaita theme, is this a problem with the theme itself, GTK 3.6 or firefox or all of the above?

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. More info/illustrations would be good.

Firefox uses GTK2 so it's out of GTK3 mess.
If you (OP) mean that the theme match the title bar then yes as Adwaita GTK theme and Adwaita Metacity (I think that's the name; I don't use GNOME)(title bar) are made to match.
But you can use other combinations of GTK theme (window) and title bar theme.

GNOME users would be able to help you further.

Just throwing a guess at it here, but you might try reading through this.

I have advanced settings installed with user theme shell extension but when I change gtk themes only the window theme is changed with the exception of the default theme which is adwaita. I have attached some screenshots of the adwaita theme and zukitwo theme.

Re: Fedora 17 + Firefox 16.0.2 + GTk themes

(Talking from memory as I don't have Adwaita here) It's because in Adwaita/index.theme it points to metacity, icon and cursor themes so when you choose it it may choose all those as well.
You can do that with any other theme, create a 'theme bundle', by defining GTK, metacity, icon and cursor themes in the same file.

The details may not be accurate but now you can investigate yourself.

Another thing that could maybe influence is that Adwaita is set as default system-wide theme in /etc/gtk-2.0 and /etc/gtk-3.0

Re: Fedora 17 + Firefox 16.0.2 + GTk themes

Agreed. The components you are working with to achive those changes are metacity and gtk-2.0. Those will have to be specified in your .theme/(theme of choice)/gtk-2.0 and .theme/(theme of choice)/metacity-1 folders (for individual users).

Thanks, secipolla! I wasn't aware of the /etc/gtk-2.0 and /etc/gtk-3.0 config files. Time to go deal with those! <....>

How do I go about doing that?

Re: Fedora 17 + Firefox 16.0.2 + GTk themes

Hmmm.

The best way to do this is to actually do some experimenting. To give a starting point:

Metacity-1 gives you the window borders (frame) and drag bar and window control buttons. (On the drag bar -- minimize, maximize, close etc.)

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...6&postcount=41

Gtk-2.0 will give you your scrollbars, radio buttons etc.

So, in the case of the Midnight Oil theme, (download here) the Stainless Steel Neon metacity-1 element gives the window elements, and the gtk-2.0 gives the scrollbars and controls seen here. (With a different metacity-1 drag bar.)

Re: Fedora 17 + Firefox 16.0.2 + GTk themes

I found a temporary fix using https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adwaita/ but that doensn't solve the fact that firefox isn't picking up the theme that I want to use. I have several themes installed but adwaita is the only one that is carried out in firefox. I did a search for firefox-3.0-gnome-support but all there are are .deb packages.

Hmmm. I may have misread your goals here.

At any rate, once you get your themes sorted, you activate various elements via the Advanced Settings dialog.

See below.

I understand all that what I'm saying is that there may be a bug in gnome 3, firefox, hell I don't but it is prventing firefox from adapting the selected theme other than adwaita. For instance I am using a theme called Orion and when Iapply it the window theme works with firefox but the rest of the theme, scrollbars, buttons, checkboxes etc...fall back to some theme I don't know what it's called but it's not adwaita.

Re: Fedora 17 + Firefox 16.0.2 + GTk themes

Uhm ... that would be a default fallback theme, and as I recall, it's pretty minimalistic. It sounds to me like your theme file may be incompatible, or it isn't fully activated in the Advanced Settings dialogue. Sometimes you have to set it there, then log out and back in to get Gnome 3 to accept it.

That being said, if you have room on the HDD, set up a dummy user account and try your themes there. If it works there, your .themes directory needs fixed. If it doesn't, then the theme probably needs fixed.
